On a blustery day at the Olympic Club, Pine Valley seized the the lead after 18 holes with 194 points in this Stableford format where points are good!!
On each hole a net par is 2 points, a net bogey in 1 point, a net double or worse is zero points, a net birdie is 3 points and a net eagle is 4 points. Half the field played the Lake course and half played the Ocean, tomorrow each player will play the opposite course to conclude the event. Tied for second is the home team of the Olympic Club tied with Winged Foot, with Oakmont and Bel Air in fourth and fifth. The Irish teams seem to be lagging behind a touch, perhaps the great San Francisco hospitality has them out late and distracted, but regardless of their play, I know they are all having an amazing time here. The courses are in amazing shape and Pat Finlan should be congratulated and his staff for working extra hours to get the courses in immaculate shape.
in the Individual competition amongst the A players, yours truly has a 3 shot lead after shooting a 71 on the Ocean course, followed closely by Rich Petit with a 74. Five other players including the Olympic Clubs Mark Mance are all at 75 and still well in the hunt for another round on the Lake Course tomorrow. My round was the typical round I have been experiencing with lots of stress with the putter, I am looking forward to trying Beta Blockers one day, and will likely stay away from the deer Antler stuff that didn’t seem to help Vijay much))))
Below are the results and a photo of the signature hole #15 on the Ocean course, which has a distinct Links feeling to it, especially as the wind howls from left to right on this hole coming off the ocean.
After tomorrows final round it will be followed by a Black Tie Celebration at the OC downtown facility that is always the highlight of this event!!
Stay tuned for final results
