Most of you already know that I putt side saddle, and have seen video of this unique technique that I have used since 1997. Recently I was interviewed at the Olympic Club by John Paul Newport, golf editor of the Wall Street Journal. He was fantastic and felt that Side Saddle may become more popular as we approach the decision by the USGA & PGA Tour about the anchoring issue in putting. If this is banned it is possible you may see some tour pros try this method, and perhaps I am one of the few players that has ever putted side saddle in a major since Sam Snead (Senior Majors).
SO today I was shocked when I saw a color picture on page A14 of me putting with my STX side saddle putter. The link here will give you access to the video that JP took of my technique and my comments on the key elements to this style. I have a number of fellow Olympians that putt side saddle that are VERY good putters that had terrible Yips. Maybe it’s time you think about making a change?
Provide your comments and I’ll be happy to help anyone interested in giving this technique a try. I think this article is pretty good, and will open up a lot of eyes to alternatives to anchored putting.
Get today’s WSJ page A14 for the full article, but this link has some video that could be helpful.
