Another beautiful day in Santa Barbara for golf at the beautiful La Cumbre, and the score once again were on the low side. I cannot ever remember a State Am cut as low as even par (actually two players missed match play in a 9 for 7 spot playoff) personally I would have been very disappointed if I shot even par 142 and missed match play. Tonight I won’t be talking much about my game as I withdrew after nine holes after my back seized up on the front nine. I am going to take a week off, and then work hard to get back into tournament form.
The young guns continue to tear this place up with length playing a big part in the scoring. The two bombers I played with both hit irons into both the par 5’s on the front nine. On the ninth hole I think they both had 6 irons into the uphill par five. The length will play a huge part in the match play segment of the tournament, and I predict one of the young college bombers will take this years title.
I look forward to the NCGA Stroke Play at Poppy Hills and the US Amateur qualifier, before I head off to play in the Senior Open at Turnberry. STAY TUNED for a photo gallery from the 2012 US OPEN.
