Okay, I admit I’m less a Tiger fan than before he took the 5 iron to the head a few Thanksgivings back, and made a public spectacle of his private life. But after seeing a flawless final round at the Memorial, and seeing those magical shots find the hole, I became convinced that Tiger is now ready to continue his assault on every record in the game. Tiger will win because he has many advantages – Experience, length, patience, superior skill, and a the STINGER is back. You give Tiger Woods in good form a tie for the lead after 36 holes in a major and the history suggests that he’ll be cool and calm down the stretch and perhaps only Jim Furyk has a legitimate shot at hanging with him. But he won’t, and Tiger will put his picture and name on the wall at the OC as the 2012 Champion (and of course I am rooting for him as he is my pick this week in my golf pool)
The crazy stat is that Tiger has been tied for the lead or lead in 9 majors after 36 holes and won 8, and finished 2nd in the lone one he didn’t win. There are a LOT of great players at +3 and +4 that are STILL in the hunt here, but Tiger will prevail, but honestly I’d love to see my pal and fellow Olympian Michael Allen take the title at age 53.
