As usual the real winner was Spyglass Hill, but the 2012 champs played great golf and deserve to win today. Plenty of drama did exist before this championship was decided, with Bill Moore holing a 55 yard shot for a Eagle 2 on 17 to pull even with the champions brought some real drama to the 18th hole where again Bill Moore made a fantastic up and in from right of the green, to force over time.
Unfortunately for the Boyns/Moore team a bogey on the 2nd playoff hole ended their bid to be champions after many close calls. Both of these teams had class guys competing for one of the best titles in Northern California. This event of three rounds at Spyglass Hill is tough to beat, Spyglass Hill is in my world best top 5 courses for many reasons!! Okay here they are:
Visually stunning holes 1-5 by the ocean. Shot quality is amazing at this tough shorter course relative to the bomber courses. This is a US Open course that could produce an over par total easily.
My partner Darryl Donovan is playing very solid golf this year, winning a major amateur event in Florida earlier this year. We had our chances, but the putting will always determine your fate, unfortunately today I missed three short putts inside 8 feet that would have made the difference in our 2 shot deficit behind the Champions total. The driver was erratic for me for three days, and the putter didn’t show up when it needed to!!
So I’ll end by posting a link to the final results and the article that further describes the final round of this great NCGA event!
Stay tuned for a course guide of the upcoming US OPEN at the Olympic Club!
