2011 was not a star studded year in professional golf with the Fed Ex cup going to Bill Haas, Web Simpson and Luke Donald. Followed by the money list of Donald, Simpson and Watney. These are great players, but not the heavy guns of the past like Woods, Mickelson. Keegan Bradley’s win in a playoff for the PGA Championship along with Charl Schwartzel birdie barrage to win the Masters were the highlights of the year in golf. The US Open and British Opens were fun to watch as well, but didn’t carry the drama of the PGA & Masters.
Will 2012 see a resurgence of Woods and Mickelson? Or has time passed them by? I am not convinced that Woods is back after his exciting victory at Sherwood Forest, nor do I think he is primed to win another major anytime soon. I think the US Open at the Olympic Club will be exciting and could again produce a surprise winner, perhaps after an 18 hole playoff. The Olympic Club will be a scenic and stunning site both through a digital presentation, along with being there in person.
