The Link above will give you all the scores of the A players in the 2011 Stocker Cup. We are enjoying perhaps the best weather ever for this event held at the beautiful Preserve Golf Club, high up in the Carmel mountains. The course conditions were quite a bit easier on day 2 with most pins in very accessible areas on these tricky and fast greens. As a result many under par score rounds were posted, most notably Mile McCoy’s 67 moving him to -4 for 36 holes and right on my tail.
It’s nice to be leading with two rounds in the 60″s, but the next 36 holes will be pressure packed and will really test my patience and skill. I have all the BIG GUNS right behind me and it’s going to be a shoot out to the finish. Right behind McCoy is past US Mid Am champion Kevin Marsh who is two time defending champ here and will make a charge over the next 36 holes. Also past USGA Public Links Champ and former Stocker Cup champ Tim Hogarth is making a move as well. There are two many guys to mention, but need to also recognize fellow Nor Cal player Jeff Wilson at -1 and looking to make a move.
What is my strategy to hold these guys off…it’s to keep doing what I’ve been doing, take one shot at a time with great tempo, and then putt the eyes out of it once on these tough green complexes. By putt the eyes out of it, I mean be patient, but make the putts that should be holed, and avoid costly 3 putts.I will continue to play aggressive and I am thrilled to be here at this amazing place playing against some of the best Mid Ams in the country.
STAY TUNED FOR ROUND 3 RESULTS
