Today at Poppy Hills the top NCGA amateurs played the top NCPGA pros in a Ryder Cup format. Under foggy, then sunny, then foggy, then sunny skies the pros got out to a 3.5 to 1.5 lead in the foresomes play (alternate shot). This afternoon was best ball and after a few matches the NCPGA lead had increased to 5.5 to 2.5. Darryl Donovan and I first won our foresomes match vs. lance Johnson and Chris Borrego, and then finished off the afternoon with a 4&3 win in the best ball portion.
For those of you that know Darryl, and how he has struggled with the putter for the past ten years….all I can say is he NOW has some insulation on those frayed wires. Darryl pored in putts all day, and was the best I’ve seen him putt in over ten years.
I don’t have the senior results yet or the final foresome matches till later. Tonight at the players dinner Jim Knoll will receive his senor player of the year metal, and I will receive my sixth NCGA player of the year award. In some later postings I will write more how I accomplished this at age 52 (three years in a row at age 50,51, and 52).
Tonight will be a spirited evening with the announcement of tomorrows single matches.
Stay tuned more results coming!
