Like previously predicted I felt that this venue would produce a surprise winner, don’t get me wrong Randal Lewis is a great amateur and at 54 made us older guys proud and able to keep the dream alive. I actually played Randal (Randy) in the US Am at Old Warson and was beaten in the quarter-finals in a close match. He was 4 under par after 34 holes and I send him my most sincere congratulations for doing something very very difficult to do, play 36 holes under the heat (both heats, the weather and the pressure).
At 54 to play 36 holes and walk three days in a row and beat a guy (Nathan Smith) that had won 16 matches in a row, is simply remarkable.
I guess I need to get back into training mode and get back on the horse after having been knocked off badly in this years event.
Up next the Metedeconk National Invitational followed by my favorite event – The Crump Cup at Pine Valley
