CATLIN WINS THE 108th NCGA AMATEUR SHOOTING LIGHTS OUT!!!!

John Catlin was nothing short of impressive and ON FIRE today as he was -9 on the scorers card. In the 30+ years I’ve been playing in this event, I haven’t seen a card like this one…EVER. I counted 11 birdies and 2 bogeys in 33 holes. Catlin birdied the 15th hole to seal the victory 5&3 over Michael Weaver who was -4 on his own ball today. Michael probably would have won 100 of the 108 events with a -4 performance, but this is the trend in golf, the younger players get longer and better as more and more athletes are playing the sport.

John Catlin is the first player to defend his title since I was able to in 92&93 (which seems like forever ago). After seeing Michael Weaver play yesterday, I figured he was the odds on favorite, I didn’t see a -9 performance out there from anyone. This is NOT an easy course, especially with the foggy and cold conditions,my hats off to both of these players for an amazing FINAL performance in this prestigious event.

Check on the NCGA site for Scott Seward’s article on the final, I’m sure worth reading (www.ncga.org)

  1. Congratulations on this years performance in the NCGA. How you run with these kids is very commendable, it has got to keep one young. Also I see your the oldest teenager in the field for the US AM. Keep it up and good luck. Tell Rheinart to keep his eyes off of their girlfriends…
